At the time of mughal emperor Shah Jahan(full name : A'la Azad Abul Muzaffar Shahab ud-Din Mohammad Shah Jahan) the capital pf mughal empire was Agra where they had  a fort but as day-by-day mughal empire was increasing rapidly Shah Jahan wants a big fort . So , all the architect of that time started searching about a suitable place to build there fort across whole India . Finally they found a suitable place near the bank of Yamuna ( Delhi) . As we know Mughals reshaped many Hindu monuments into Mughal  by changing it's decoration , some structures (like adding tomb ) , changing the calligraphy on walls and etc .They found a fort near bank of river Yamuna which was named s "LAAL COURT" which was made by ruler of Tomar dynasty - Anangpal Tomar II ( father in law of Prithviraj chauhan) . At  that time Shah Jahan was in Kabul (capital of Afghanistan) . He suddenly came to Delhi after knowing about Laal court because of significance of Laal Court .

 Significances of Laal Court :

  •  One side beautiful mountains of Aravali
  • Other side deep Yamuna river
due to these geographical conditions this fort was very safe . So , Shah Jahan decided to capture this Laal Court. After Shah Jahan many kings ruled the estate from this fort. When britishers came they also ruled from this fort . In 1857 at the time of Indian Rebellion movement , at this time Bahadur Shah Jafar(/Zafar) was the ruling from this Laal Court . He came against Britishers . He won fight with britishers in May month of 1857 but after four months britishers again attacked and captured Laal Court . On 22nd Sept , 1857 , Bahadur Shah Jafar (/Zafar) was prisoned with his two sons by britishers . Lieutenant Hershon of british empire assassinated both sons of Bahadur Shah Zafar with the help of pistol and prisoned Bahadur Shah Jafar(/Zafar) in Laal Court itself . Britishers named it RED FORT& Walls of Laal Court was embedded with Gold and Silver but britishers demolished it from there.Later Bahadur Shah Jafar (/Zafar ) was prisoned in Rangoon . In Nov , 1862 Bahadur Shah Jafar (/Zafar) died and Neta ji Shubhash Chandra bose said - " Victory Parade on Mausoleum( Maqbara / Qabr ) on Bahadur Shah Jafar (/Zafar ) after defeating Britishers would be the Independence of India " .

So , that's why on every Independece day Tiranga (national flag of India ) is hoisted on Red Fort .

Thank you !
